Our Team

Stephen Jones

sjones@joneselderlaw.com Stephen Jones, Attorney at Law Attorney Stephen Jones has spent much of his career in the litigation arena, seeking compensation for victims of medical and financial injuries. Many of his cases involved helping individuals and families in crisis situations, particularly those suffering from Mesothelioma and other lung diseases resulting from exposure to asbestos, and seniors who had been victimized by financial injury and lost their life savings. This, together with watching his grandmother struggle with congestive heart failure, inspired Stephen to found Jones Elder Law. The firm is dedicated to helping families plan for the future, protect themselves against the high cost of healthcare, and cope with crisis situations. Stephen now focuses exclusively on the specialized fields of elder law, Medicaid planning, estate planning, disability planning, Veterans benefits planning and closely related practice areas. Discussing your needs and concerns with Stephen is a bit like sitting down with an old friend or a member of your family. He takes the time to listen closely to you and gain a thorough understanding of your unique situation. Unlike some large law firms, where you might not know who is actually working on your case, Stephen handles all his cases personally and enjoys working with his clients one on one. He brings more to the table than a mastery of elder law and related practice areas; he brings compassion and commitment as well. Stephen received his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Blackburn College; his Master of Business Administration (with honors) from the University of West Virginia; and his Juris Doctorate (Magna Cum Laude) from St. Louis University. His education in accounting and business, together with his extensive professional experience in financial law, make him eminently qualified to help families plan their financial future and survive periods of financial crisis. Stephen is a member of the American Bar Association; the Illinois Bar Association; the Missouri Bar Association; the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association; the Madison County Bar Association; and the Alton/Wood River Bar Association. He is also a member of several prestigious professional organizations, including the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and ElderCounsel.

Rosalind M. Robertson, Partner

rrobertson@joneselderlaw.com Stephen Jones, Attorney at Law Rosalind takes a highly personalized approach to the practice of law. Like Stephen, she was drawn to the areas of Elder Law and Estate Planning through a combination of personal experience, passion and a particular aptitude for these areas of the law. Rosalind’s paternal grandmother spent seven years in a nursing home. She was healthy as can be but suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease. Her maternal grandmother, on the other hand, was sound physically and mentally, but then broke her hip and had to enter a nursing home. Rosalind was extremely close to both of her grandmothers, and saw first-hand how difficult it can be to choose the appropriate care environment. She also experienced the emotional toll this process can take on the family. Rosalind received her BA in Political Science and Public Administration from Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois. She earned her Juris Doctor from Saint Louis University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri. Rosalind is admitted to practice in Illinois, the Southern District of Illinois, the Northern District of Illinois and the state of Missouri. Rosalind is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Madison County Bar Association and Alton/Wood River Bar Association. She is also an active volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association. When not in the office, Rosalind enjoys spending time with her beloved puppy, running and watching baseball.

Janel Lorts, Client Services Coordinator

jlorts@joneselderlaw.com Stephen Jones, Attorney at Law Janel has spent the past 6 years helping Seniors who have been taken advantage of financially. After witnessing first hand with her family the emotional and financial impact dementia can have, Janel drew upon her legal experience and began looking for ways to protect what her family had worked a lifetime to accumulate. While navigating her family through the benefit process, Janel realized many Seniors don’t have a family member to help them and are simply unaware of the options available to them. As a member of the Jones Elder Law Team, Janel will be helping to serve as that missing family member for Seniors who don’t have someone to turn to in their time of need.
