Some people are born with a disability, others become disabled later in life through illness or injury. At Jones Elder Law, we are dedicated to helping parents with disabled children and disabled adults receive all the government assistance they are entitled to, as well as protecting the disabled individual’s eligibility for such benefits.
One of the most important sources of assistance for disabled children and adults is Supplemental Security Income (SSI). What is SSI? Simply put, SSI is a Federal income supplement program designed to provide elderly and/or disabled people with money to meet basic needs for food, clothing and shelter. Unfortunately, there is nothing simple about the SSI application process. We can guide you through the bureaucratic maze—the reams of paperwork, frustrating delays and red tape—while minimizing stress on your family and maximizing your chances for receiving SSI benefits.
We can also put powerful legal tools to work on your behalf, such as Special Needs Trusts and Supplemental Needs Trusts, to ensure your disabled loved one can receive private gifts or asset transfers without jeopardizing eligibility for critical government benefits such as SSI. This will allow you to provide your disabled loved one with the best possible care and a host of life-enhancing benefits not available through SSI, without a painful interruption in SSI assistance.
